SCHOOL children had a half-time kickabout at a Huddersfield Town match last weekend.

Pupils from Fieldhead Junior, Infant and Nursery School who are taking part in a young leaders programme attended the Huddersfield Town versus Wolverhampton Wonderers game and played on the pitch at the interval.

Communities United Project (CUP), in partnership with Fieldhead School and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH), are delivering a programme of sports leadership workshops for children in year six who attend Fieldhead School.

The Young Leader Award provides pupils with leadership skills through sports, games, activities and workshops.

KNH neighbourhood operations manager Robert Scott said: “CUP and the local school have played a key part in helping to make Fieldhead a safer and happier place to live through their ongoing work with local children over the past few years. The children are showing much more respect for the estate and there is much less vandalism and anti-social behaviour.”

CUP’s activities development co-ordinator, Ashley Connor, said: “Giving young people the opportunity to take part in awards such as this will not only build their confidence and self esteem but give them their first foot on the ladder to a career in sport and recreation.”
