Fire crews on the scene at Strawberry Bank, Liversedge

FIRE crews were called to a gas explosion at a disused care home in Liversedge this morning.

The blast happened around 6.25am at the former Strawberry Bank Care Home in Strawberry Bank, Millbridge.

Crews from Cleckheaton and Batley were called out to the scene. Nobody was injured.

Cleckheaton White Watch commander Damian Cameron said two men had been spotted running from the scene and initial investigations indictated the explosion could have been caused by metal thieves stripping copper piping from the empty building.
