Growing concern over Barley Fields

WITH regard to the council's proposals for new homes in the Kirklees area, we would like to raise the following points:

1) Barley Fields have some of the most used footpaths in the area.

2) Where does the council propose to gain access to this land, as both the A62 and A651 are extremely busy at peak times?

3) Building on Barley fields would greatly reduce house values and privacy along Oxford Road and Craven Lane.

4) There have already been major house building projects in Gomersal, without increasing schools and local shops. (Burnley Mill , Popeley Rise, Coppice, etc)

5) The additional housing will create extra noise pollution.

6) Barley Fields already has a problem with water run-off and often the fields resemble a pond, housing would only exacerbate the problem with water run-off.

7) Surely there are several brown field sites that could be developed, but we assume selling these homes would prove more difficult and expensive to develop in the long term.

8) The whole consultation period was very poorly advertised, we only knew about it due to a letter through our door by a resident. More time is needed to discuss the plans.

9) Public transport at the moment is very poor, how do you think you could improve the service?

We believe the development in Kirklees should be done more evenly, so far Gomersal has had a big increase of houses but not enough has been done to the local infrastructure.

It is very difficult to agree or disagree with the proposals when the plans are drawn at such a scale that identifying where they refer to is nearly impossible.
