Joy as Hasinah, 7, survives hit and run horror
THE family of a seven-year-old hit and run victim have spoken of her horrific injuries and doctors' fears she may not survive.
Hasinah Rafiq was rushed to Dewsbury and District Hospital in a critical condition last Wednesday night after a speeding car knocked her down in Healey.
But on Monday, after an amazing recovery, she was allowed back to her Batley Carr home where she was reunited with her twin sister Nasihah.
Her older sister Misbah Rafiq, 22, of Hope Street, said: "It's a real relief for us all to have her home. It's been really hard for my mum and Nasihah.
"The twins are very close. Nasihah went to back to school on Tuesday morning and broke down when she told the teachers what had happened. The hospital even let her stay one night because she was crying."
Misbah told the News they had been visiting family on Healey Lane and were crossing the road at around 8.15pm when a dark coloured Nissan Micra sped down the road at about 50 or 60mph.
She said: "By the time my sister told Hasinah to get out of the way, the car had hit her. She was stood there one minute and the next she was gone.
"She was on the bonnet and as the driver braked she flew off the car. She was lying in the middle of the road.
"My sister went up to the driver and as they started the car again and tried to go we had to drag Hasinah out of the way. They would have gone over her. By this time all the neighbours had come out and brought blankets.
"She had a big lump on her head like a football. She was rolling her eyes back and family members were trying to call her. My mum fainted because she thought she'd die.
"She's broken her ankle and she's got fractures on her pelvis and skull. The doctors said she was lucky to be alive."
She said the fact the car had just driven off had added to the family's upset and she urged the driver to come forward.
A police spokesman said they had arrested a 19-year-old man from Batley who was questioned and released on bail.
