Lessons to be learned

WITH reference to your front page article on the recent gas problem (News, January 7).

The people at Heaton Grange had no communication or letters about the progress of the repairs.

We were not told of the drop-in, nor would some of us have been able to get to these. No-one checked on vulnerable people. We have at least three families with small children and one with a small baby.

I am a 73-year-old pensioner with disabilities. No-one checked how we were coping.

I appreciate that the gas engineers did their best but had it not been for my family and two good neighbours I would have had real problems. Nor were we informed about the public meeting which some could have attended.

The lessons to be learned are that communication is vital and checks should be made and the vulnerable people sought out and helped.
