Man faked roof work

A ROGUE trader prayed on an elderly woman, asking her to pay for work to her home that wasn’t carried out.

The woman answered the door to the fraudster last Tuesday afternoon.

He asked if she wanted any work carried out on her house in Soothill Lane, and when she refused he handed her a leaflet for a roofing company.

He then returned half an hour later asking for payment, though not specifying an amount, for pointing work and roof tiling he claimed to have done.

The work had not been carried out.

Police say the man stuck his foot in the door, so the woman couldn’t close it, but she was able to overpower him and shut the door.

The incident is being investigated by officers at Batley Neighbourhood Policing Team. Anyone with information, or who has had a similar experience, should call them via 101.
