Playground equipment for Fieldhead plan

CHILDREN in Fieldhead will be getting new outdoor play equipment as part of the estate's regeneration.

While 155 unpopular flats are being knocked down to make way for new family homes and 2m is being spent by Kirklees on the remaining flats, residents feel the outdoor play areas also need looking at.

So Birstall and Birkenshaw area committee has awarded a contribution of 10,000 to provide equipment suitable for all age groups.

Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing is currently consulting with locals on what they would like to see in the area and suggestions include a floodlit multi-use games area, a trim trail and green gym path through the estate to help improve fitness, a traditional toddler play area or a play area for older children and a skate park.

Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services has already contributed 25,000 for the games area and regeneration developer Keepmoat has agreed to donate 5,000 for the trim trail and green gym. Work is expected to start later this year.
