Power to the people?

Power to the people?

WE were told by the Lib Dems and the Tories they would give more powers to the people but what have we got? Our voice in parliament is to be cut, in fact it could be just a talking shop with no power.

First of all he is going to change the rules on how parliament can be dissolved before its end of term. At present, 50 per cent of MPs can vote against the government plus one. He wants to make this 55 per cent, plus a fixed term of five years so he cannot be voted out if he loses a vote of confidence.

The next step will be to stop Scottish MPs voting. He also wants to cut the number of MPs in Parliament - what he means is Labour MPs. At the same time he wants to cut the financial link between the unions and Labour which would bankrupt the labour movement altogether and could lead to a one party system in power for ever.

The people raised their voice against the poll tax. This is more important. He is trying to become an elected dictator trying to destroy the constitution which has served the people for a long time.
