The street became a river

THE worst snowstorms Batley has seen in 18 years brought roads to a standstill.

But as history will tell it's not only snow that can stop the town moving. On June 9, 1910, Bradford Road became a river.

The road's proximity to Batley Beck made it prone to flooding until later improvements.

Edith Brown, who owned the tobacconist shop in Bradford Road, Batley Carr, became marooned during later floods in May 1925.
