THIS WEEK’S PAPER

A MAN has been jailed for raping an eight-year-old girl more than a decade ago.

York Crown Court heard this week John Hutchinson, 27, of Aire Street in Middlesbrough, also sexually abused the child while working at a karting track at Blackeridge Mills in Batley.

ALSO: Staff at Fox’s Biscuits have voted in favour of strike action over the company’s plans to change their working terms and conditions. Members of the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union in Batley and the factory’s sister site in Kirkham, Lancashire, could go out on full strike or carry out industrial action short of a strike over the issue.

AND FINALLY: When Leanne Craven alerted the fire brigade of a blaze at her neighbours home, she didn’t expect the call would be a life saving one. But when firefighters forced their way into the burning house, out ran plucky pooch, Pixie.

Don’t miss all this, plus all the reaction to latest LDF news and money off Flamingoland, only in this week’s Batley and Birstall News, out tomorrow.
