This week’s paper
IT was one man’s message to a future 100 years away.
Guy Baines Wood, of Batley, wrote a letter dated December 12 1912 in the hopes that it would be read by future generations of his family 100 years on. For great-great-grandson Tim Thorpe, the letter sparked an interest in history, fuelled by Guy’s account of what life was like 100 years ago.
ALSO: Batley West councillor Shabir Pandor (Lab) has vowed to help save Wilton Tenants and Residents Association after hearing the group was struggling to find volunteers. He said he will work with Kirklees Council and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and has vowed not to let Wilton slip into decline.
AND FINALLY: A Batley couple had no need for fireworks on New Years Eve after their son Archie made a dramatic appearance. He was originally due on Christmas Eve but mum Natalie Carter didn’t go into labour until December 30 and he arrived at 12.46am on New Year’s Day.
Don’t miss all this, plus read all about Jane Griffin’s transition from stage star to director and find out which Birstall eaterie has bagged top spot in a Trip Advisor chart, only in this week’s Batley and Birstall News, our Thursday.
