FEARS surfaced this week that Batley’s iconic library building is to be sold off and the service moved to the town hall.
And Batley History Group are gearing up to fight any such move after receiving information from an ‘insider’. Kirklees Council said no formal decisions have been made but the group has pledged to start a massive campaign if the rumours are true.
ALSO: Concerns have been raised that a former Batley Carr pub us being used illegally as an education training centre. Coun Amanda Stubley (Lab, Batley East) said she had been told people were gathering at the former Old Shoulder of Mutton pub in Halifax Road to use it as an Islamic education centre.
