Thought for the Week - Andrew Wood

WE were lost. The map in the underground station was hopelessly inadequate and had led us astray. Unfamiliar city (Brussels); unfamiliar language (French); unfamiliar streets. We wandered, more in hope than with purpose. We needed directions. In faltering French my brother-in-law asked a passer-by for help.

A long list of instructions followed joined together with lots of ‘à gauches’ (lefts) and ‘à droites’ (rights). Then she paused. The lady was going straight past our destination. She suggested we walk together. Now we had more than directions, we had a companion and a guide. The Apostle Thomas once asked the Lord Jesus for ‘directions’, he wanted to know ‘the way’ into God’s presence. Rather than a long list of instructions the Lord Jesus promised to be Thomas’ personal guide and companion: ‘I am the way’ he declared, ‘follow me’.

So the Christian journey, through this life and in to the life to come, is one made in the presence Jesus Christ.
