Thousands of potholes repaired - but thousands more to do
MORE than 7,000 potholes in Kirklees have been repaired since January, according to the latest council figures.
Kirklees' highways service says it still has 3,000 potholes to repair and will add any new requests to the list.
The council expects the pothole repair programme to be finished by mid April and has set aside 600,000 from its 3.5m road repair budget to fund the work.
Coun Peter McBride, Cabinet member for transport, said: "I would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding whilst the repair work is taking place.
"The potholes and damaged roads are being repaired as quickly as possible with the additional resources now made available by Cabinet."
The council said potholes were repaired on a ward by ward basis in the
most efficient and environmentally friendly way possible.
It means teams work out the quickest route through each ward and fix all potholes in need of repairs on that route.
However, potholes in need of urgent attention are meant to be dealt with within 24 hours of being reported, regardless of location.
Potholes that are deeper than two inches are repaired and those less than two inches are patched over.
The current repair programme for patching work includes more than 45,000 square metres of the district's 32 priority gritting routes, which account for 60 per cent of the Kirklees road network.
