Trains cancelled after railway death

TRAINS throughout the area have been cancelled after a person was hit by a train at Ravensthorpe.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said a body was found on the tracks at 6.27am today.

She said officers were trying to find out exactly what happened, and lines were closed, with all trains currently cancelled.

Services through Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, Mirfield, Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Victoria, Stalybridge, Huddersfield, Batley, Morley, Cottingley and Leeds.

Operators affected are First TransPennine Express and Northern Rail.

A bus service has been put on between Leeds and Huddersfield through Dewsbury, with a journey time increase of up to 60 minutes.

Northern Rail expects to reopen lines by 10am.
