Tribute paid to teenage crash victim
Tributes have been paid to a teenager who died in a motorcycle crash.
Seventeen-year-old Jake Uttley, who was a volunteer at Bumpy in Birstall, was riding his black Suzuki Bandit motorbike along Wood Lane, Rothwell, towards the A61 Wakefield Road, on Saturday, January 5, when it was involved in a collision with a silver Renault Scenic.
Jake was taken to Pinderfields Hospital before being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary where he died of his injuries.
Jake, who lived in Leeds, volunteered at Bumpy, a charity which provides on and off road motorcycle training.
Bumpy manager Carolyne Kenzitt said: “The organisation is absolutely devastated and cannot believe such a lovely person has been taken so young.
“Jake helped out from washing the motorcycles to helping the children around the park and making sure they were safe.
“He always had a smile on his face.”
“We run a lot of sessions for young people with disabilities and he was always keen to get involved.
“I don’t know who had more fun, the young people or Jake.”
Hundreds of tributes have been posted on a special page set up on Facebook in Jake’s memory.
Saif Cheema said: “I worked with him, great lad he was. Good hear too, always looked out for others at work. RIP.”
Elizabeth Gaughan added: “Terrible news. Jake was a one off, a bright spark, an individual.
“My sympathy to family and friends.”
The 25-year old male driver of the Renault has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently on police bail pending further enquiries.
Witnesses should call the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047.
