UPDATE: Man struck by train in Batley dies

A MAN who was struck by a train in Batley has died, police say.

Officers from the British Transport Police were called to the train line near to Howley Mill Lane at 1.40pm on Tuesday after reports a man had been hit.

A spokesman said paramedics from the West Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

He said the incident was being treated as non-suspicious.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.

The train involved was the 11.50am Middlesbrough to Manchester Airport service.

Lines are currently blocked, affecting services between Dewsbury and Leeds. Buses are replacing trains between Huddersfield and Leeds, with journey times extended by up to 40 minutes.
