Who will be hit by cuts?

THE voters of this country gave no political party a mandate to govern.

Despite the millions of pounds poured into the Conservative Party by extremely rich people, the Tory vote fell short of what they expected. There was no surge in support for the Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party did not finish in third place, in fact they did extremely well in local government elections.

What we have however is a Tory/Liberal coalition led by two privately educated people, multi-millionaire mansion dwellers, hardly reflective of the ordinary man and woman in the street.

What Cameron and Clegg have done is to give themselves and their mates well-paid jobs in a cabinet.

Having looked after themselves, they now turn their attention in unity to cut 6bn in public finances.

The tough times ahead are aimed at people who had nothing to do with the current economic crisis - the poor, those on benefits and public sector workers. The cuts in the public sector will have a knock-on effect on the private sector which is reliant on income and work from local authorities.

Clegg and Cameron have done a deal to support the greedy, the rich and the privileged.

Finally, as I write this letter, it is local newspaper week. This newspaper is to be congratulated on its unbiased reporting, its fairness and commitment to providing information that treats the reader like intelligent human beings.
