AMERICAN ADVENTURE: The children enjoy traditional American crafts.

YOUNG visitors to Cleckheaton Library have been enjoying a whistle-stop world tour during the summer holidays.

The theme was stories from around the world to link in with the Summer Reading Challenge which encourages children to read six books over the school holidays.

The first event was North American Crafts when the children made totem poles and Indian headdresses.

Kathryn Parry, customer services manager at the library, said: “They put in a lot of effort and imagination and the results were very impressive.”

The following week professional storyteller Susanna Meese from Telling Tales visited and the children enjoyed celebrating stories from around the world as well as some arts and crafts.

Those who complete the reading challenge will receive a medal and certificate from the library.
