Alfie Holland, six, only has half of his heart functioning and has undergone major heart surgery six times, most recently in November.

He and his family have depended on the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit at Leeds General Infirmary throughout this life.

And last year, his mum Emma Brook spent a month fundraising for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund, which supports the unit.

Now, she is raising money to help the unit again, this time with a charity evening at the Legends Bar on Bradford Road, Batley.

Miss Brook, 37 of Slack Road, said: “This charity is so close to my heart and the hearts of everyone who knows us.

“We fundraise for the heart unit every year. When Alfie is in hospital, I can see first hand how much the ward and the charity help him and other children. The charity also supports Eckersley House meaning I can stay overnight close to Alfie when he is in intensive care.”

Alfie’s heart condition means he often gets breathless and turns blue. His surgeries have helped him to breathe more easily, but his family do not know what the future holds.

The charity evening will start at 5pm on May 8. There will singing performances from Kelly Aitcheson, a raffle with a cash prize and a stand up Bingo competition.

Tickets cost £5 each and can be bought from Legends Bar or by emailing Miss Brook at [email protected].
