IT’S celebration time for a romantic boyfriend who proposed in the News for Valentine’s Day.

Ronald Dakin had a teenage crush on Haley Karolewski for years, but they drifted apart until Facebook reunited them later in life.

Last week he popped the question in one of the Valentine text messages printed in the News.

His message read: ‘Haley K. Will u marry me? Love u always. Ron xxx’.

Ron, 35, of Upper Commercial Street, Batley, was thrilled when Haley, 31, said yes, setting the seal on a relationship which first flowered in their teenage years.

He said: “We’ve been together a year but we’ve actually known each other since junior school. She couldn’t believe I’d put the message in the paper but she said yes straight away.”

Haley said: “I was so shocked but so happy – this has been a long time coming.

“Ron had a crush on me for years, though I never knew! We went out for a time when I was 16 but after that we lost contact for a long time.

“He’d been looking for me for a few years but hadn’t been getting anywhere. Then he got in touch with me on Facebook and it was great to see him again.”

The couple are hoping to tie the knot some time later this year.
