An Oscar-style ceremony was held to award students from Kirklees College for their outstanding progress and success.

The annual student COLS (College Outstanding Learner Success) ceremony took place at the Huddersfield Centre, Waterfront Quarter .

Eighty award recipients were made to feel glamorous at an Oscar-style awards evening, hosted by Huddersfield Town’s commercial director Sean Jarvis.

Cheering them on were family, friends, and college tutors who had nominated the winning students and the college’s senior managers.

Batley winners included Aamira Pandor, Farhan Mahmood, Rebecca Gray and Saleha Umar.

Aamira who is studying beauty, was nominated by tutor Elona Thomas who said: “Aamira had great technical skills, her assignment work was fantastic as she could explain her thoughts very well, and every client wanted to keep her as their personal therapist. She was so dedicated to the beauty industry that she entered the world skills competitions to be a fantastic ambassador for Kirklees College.”

Farhan was nominated by his business tutors Lydia Butterworth and Richard Turner who said: “His fantastic grades could not been achieved without hard-work, dedication and submission of the highest quality course-work. Farhan deserves recognition for his continuous efforts throughout the whole qualification. He also supported many of his classmates in their learning. He is genuinely a joy to teach and therefore we are delighted that he has chosen to continue his studies at Kirklees College.”

Rebecca who is studying creative industries was ominated by Anj Hardy who said: “She has pushed herself to develop her confidence and performance skills in both dance and acting. This was rewarded by a major role in the final major production of the course which she completed extremely well in front of her peers and family.”

Saleha was nominated by tutor Kate Lindley who said: “From only starting at college last year Saleha has improved very quickly. That she has only been in the country for two years and been so successful is testament to her hard work and dedication.”
