Cricketers will be bowled over when they take part in their first ever overseas tour.
The team of 13 players from Mount Cricket Club in Staincliffe will be jetting off from Manchester airport next Thursday, for their 10-day tour in Saudi Arabia.
And while they are there they will also be making a pilgrimage as well as sightseeing.
Club secretary Suleman Motala said: “It’s the first time that Mount CC will be touring abroad.”
After arriving at Jeddah airport the team will make its way to Madinah for the first four days, which will include a visit to the Prophet’s Mosque, places to visit and a game in Madinah against the Saudi Arabian side MCH Combined.
On February 24, they will travel to Makkah for the pilgrimage. Their four-day stay there will include sightseeing and a game against Hala Cricket Academy.
After that they will visit Jeddah City for the final leg of the journey with the team playing against MCH Premier before flying home on March 2.
Suleman said: “We have been sponsored by a company called 2 Sisters Food Group which owns Batley’s famous Fox’s Biscuits company.
“The team has been sponsored and been given cricket shirts and jackets for all 13 players.
“It’s excellent, we are all looking forward to it and we just can’t wait to go to Saudi Arabia and play cricket – we’re representing our country.
“It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for all of us. It’s about three things - playing cricket, making the pilgrimage and it’s a holiday as well.”
“If people want to follow us on Facebook, they can ‘like’ Mount Cricket Club and we’ll share pictures and videos.
“We will also be taking with us copies of the Batley News which we will give to the teams which we weill be playing.”
