It was all about rhythm and rhyme for poetic youngsters last week.

Dale House School’s nursery rhymes and poetry week saw pupils learning and performing classic pieces, with prizes awarded to the best recitals.

Younger children also came to the Ruby Street school dressed as characters from the nursery rhymes they were learning by heart.

Head teacher Sarah Fletcher said the children were enthusiastic about the poems they studied.

She said: “We think it’s important that children can recognise poems and perform them and understand rhythm and rhyme in English literature.

“They got a lot of fun out of it but they are also learning about language and performance.”
