Quick-thinking police and members of the public recognised at awards bash.

The Kirklees District Commander’s Awards was held at Huddersfield University on Thursday, March 10.

The force’scommander, Chief Superintendent Steve Cotter, said: “I am immensely proud of the work that is going on on a daily basis across Kirklees district by our officers, staff and volunteers to protect the vulnerable and bring offenders to justice.”

PC Kathryn Jagger, PC Rosaleen Hird, Prim Mumford and Richard Tedder were awardees after obtaining ASBOs for two people causing problems on the London Park Estate in Mirfield.

Section officer Dean Hemingway was commended for supervising at football matches and for leading a number of projects in Chickenley and Thornhill that have reduced anti-social behaviour.

Analyst Karen Field was recognised for identifying the suspect for two violent robberies at travel agents, including one in Cleckheaton, which led to long prison sentences.

PCSO Melanie Towers and PC James Berriman bagged silverware for their actions in saving the life of a woman who had a suspected heart attack in Dewsbury.

PCSO Katy Taylor, PC Ashley Barrett, PC Thomas Phillips, PC Nigel Milner and PC Andrew Maloney were commended for their attempts to save a man’s life.

PCSO Taylor noticed the man slumped in his vehicle while she was on patrol in Batley.

The man died the next day – but due to the officers’ aid his family were a able to say their goodbyes in hospital.
