A TV soap star will carry out the Christmas lights switch on in Batley next week.
Emmerdale actress Nicola Wheeler – who plays Nicola King – is doing the honours on Thursday November 29 at 7pm.
She will help switch on the lights in Batley’s Market Place following three hours of entertainment.
Youngsters will have the opportunity to tell Santa what is top of their Christmas list with visits to his grotto inside the town hall from 4pm.
The event will also feature Blackpool donkeys, fairground rides and entertainment from the Pulse Roadshow.
The switch-on at 7pm will be followed by a firework display, before the celebrations continue in Batley Town Hall for the final of Batley’s Got Talent.
Batley and Dewsbury towns manager Andrew Sloman said: “We are delighted Nicola will be joining us and I’m sure the people of Batley will flock to see her.
“It is great to have a major soap star who is such a big character in the show switch on the lights.
“We always have a great time at the Batley Christmas lights and there will be plenty to do from market stalls to street entertainment.
“After the switch on we have the Batley’s Got Talent live final and there may still be some places on the heats still available if anyone is interested in entering.”
