These three champs have a good reason to smile.
Callum Orange, Ryan Hammerton and Matthew Crorken have each earned themselves a place in the Yorkshire championships of Sports Hall Athletics.
The sporting trio, all members of Spenborough Athletics Club and pupils at St Patrick’s School, Birstall, had to compete against other children from West Yorkshire in track and field events at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford
They found themselves in the top three places in most of their challenges and are now preparing for the Yorkshire Championships, which will be held in Hull next month.
Although it’s not the first time the boys have taken part in the trial, they say this is the furthest they’ve ever got.
Ryan, 11, said they trio was looking forward to the next challenge, and another win would be the ‘icing on the cake’.
He said their success was down to the Spen coaches and teachers at school.
“They push us to the limit because they know we can live up to our potential,” he said.
