A FORMER hairdresser has swapped chopping locks for a career at a gas engineering training firm.
Jenny Suddard, 23, spent seven years cutting hair and decided it was time for a change, so she went back to college to train in business administration.
“I had two jobs when I was hairdressing; cutting hair and working on reception,” she said.
“I realised I was enjoying that type of stuff to hairdressing.
“What I’m doing now is very different, but I like it. I needed something completely different.”
Through her course at Icoco training in Cleckheaton, Jenny was put into an apprenticeship scheme at Brookhouse Training in the town.
As well as helping to send out welcome packs and sorting out invoice paper work, Jenny, who lives in Oakenshaw, said she was also learning a thing or two about gas fitting.
She said: “When I came here I didn’t know anything about gas work at all. I’ve been picking bits up and I certainly know more about it now.”
Jenny’s apprenticeship will last until next year, when she hops she might be taken on permanently.
Brookhouse Training’s director James McConnell said: “It wasn’t a hard decision for us to decide to take part in the apprenticeship scheme. Jenny is a bright, hard-working individual and at such a young age with the ambition she has I’m certain she will become a real asset within our business.”
