In this week’s Batley and Birstall News:
A political party is suggesting a revolution in local government by splitting the district into four.
The plan – part of Kirklees Conservatives’ local election manifesto – would see the Batley West and East wards join with Dewsbury’s three wards, while Birstall and Birkenshaw would be tied in with Cleckheaton, Liversedge and Gomersal, Heckmondwike, and Mirfield to form Greater Spenborough.
ALSO: A local country and western artist has topped the charts - with a song dedicated to his mum.
AND FINALLY: A dedicated secondary school for Batley’s Muslim community will officially open its doors in September.
Don’t miss all this, plus: police continue their battle with drivers who escaped petrol forecourts without paying, building work has started to convert the former County Court for North Kirklees into apartments and don’t forget to read Educating Yorkshire’s Jonny Mitchell’s column.
Only in this week’s Batley and Birstall News, out Thursday.
