WHEN Leanne Dodsley moved to Carlinghow Lane, she was thrilled with the large garden her new home offered.

But now, due to missing slats in the fence, she feels the outdoor space is too dangerous after her two-year-old son escaped – twice.

Leanne, 30, called Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) and was told the fence would be repaired, but three weeks on the slats are still missing.

Around a month ago, little Cyrus got through the gap where the slats were missing and ran into Carlinghow Lane, a busy main road.

Mum-of-four Leanne was talking to a friend across the road while the children were playing in the garden, when Cyrus suddenly escaped and ran into the road.

“I was just screaming,” she said. “He just ran. A car just literally skimmed him.”

Then two weeks ago the two-year-old slipped through the fence again and was in danger of being run over on Carlinghow Lane, with a van nearly hitting him.

“It would have caused a big accident,” Leanne said.

The stay-at-home mum now says she feels let down by KNH and is still waiting for repairs to be carried out after receiving a confirmation letter.

A KNH spokeswoman said: “Mrs Dodsley has been in contact with us regarding the fencing to her property.

“We have agreed to renew a section of fencing to the front of the property and carry out repairs where slats are missing to the rest of the fencing.

“We are arranging for this work to be carried out as soon as possible.”
