UPDATE: Man charged with attempted murder after Dewsbury Asda attack

A man has been charged with attempted murder after an attack in Dewsbury town centre's Asda supermarket.

Police confirmed a 46-year-old man suffered serious injuries from a knife at around 12.30am on Friday, March 11.

The victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but has now been discharged.

Det Insp George Bardell, of Kirklees CID, confirmed that the attack took place inside the Asda store in Mill Street West.

“The victim has been stitched up and he’s at home and doing quite well, considering,” said Det Insp Bardell.

Wayne Walshaw, 44, of Mountain Crescent, Thornhill, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon in a public place.

He appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court on Saturday and has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on April 8.
