A local MP rose to the defence of St John Ambulance after concerns were raised over the charity’s restructure.

Charity bosses have abolished the St John Ambulance county divisions and replaced it with a regional structure.

Politicians from Kent brought a debate to Westminster Hall claiming the charity was in danger of being turned into a commercial organisation.

But Batley and Spen MP Mike Wood said: “My understanding is that the organisation nationally - this is certainly my experience locally - has improved its performance.

“It is training more people and functioning in a much more open fashion.

“My group, which is based in Ossett, has welcomed the improved situation in which it now functions.”
