Seven primary schools took part in this year’s Sing: Staincliffe CofE School, Windmill CofE Primary, Hanging Heaton CE VC J&I School, St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School, Batley Grammar School Primary Phase, St Peter’s CE Junior, Infants and Early Years and Musica Batley Youth Choir.

Musica Kirklees area manager Jennifer Isaacs, who set up the project, said: “The Big Sing has gone from strength to strength with schools welcoming the opportunity to sing.

“Each school gets a free workshop with our choir leader Susan Bennett and a rehearsal before the concert where parents get to see their children shine on stage.”

The Big Sing is one of many large scale musical events organised by Musica Kirklees, and Dewsbury school children are already looking forward to their Big Sing next term.

Mrs Isaacs said:“‘The only thing better than singing is more singing’ – Ella Fitzgerald’s words certainly ring true in Batley and Birtall.”
