Strictly Ballroom is another notch for young actor

Frazer Powell, 12, is joining alumni of a local performance school on the path to success after securing the junior lead role to the opening performance of Strictly Ballroom, the Musical.

Frazer, of the Stuart Stage School, Heckmondwike, already has a string of credits to his name, performing in Jesus Christ Superstar and playing Simba in The Lion King at Disneyland Paris.

Vivienne Powell, Frazer’s mother, said: “He started following in his sister’s footsteps and started dancing when he was nine, he has been lucky enough to get into a lot of shows.

“He loves the theatre and this is a fantastic opportunity for him to meet people who work in the West End.”

School alumni Simon Hardwick works as assistant choreographer on the show and approached the school for children to audition for the part of Luke.

Jill Stuart, Principal of the Stuart Stage School, Heckmondwike, said:“Simon is from Heckmondwike as well and has become very successful working on West End Shows, and the children can look up to him.”
