A woman was left needing 15 stitches after she was attacked in a wooded area near a bus stop.
The 22-year-old suffered cuts to her neck and bruising on her left eye after the incident on the opposite side of the road to the Black Horse pub in Edge Top Road, Thornhill.
She was admitted to hospital but has since been released.
It took place 12.30am-2am on Saturday (30) but it was not reported until Sunday, when police tape was used to cordon off the scene.
Police have identified a named suspect they would like to speak to but have not yet made any arrests.
