THE stewards at Staincliffe Cricket Club are seeking help in tracing the boyhood friends of an Australian relative.
Steve and Denise Brett recently visited Denise's uncle, Joe Cassidy, in Launceston, Tasmania, where Steve found an old photograph of Joe on the cup winning Batley Boys rugby team of 1945-6.

Joe, who is now 81, grew up at Fairview Road, Carlinghow, and attended St Mary's Primary School. His sister Doreen Smith lives in Heckmondwike.

He moved to Australia in the 1950s where he married an Aussie, also called Doreen, and the couple have four daughters and a son.

Steve said: "We were on holiday in Australia, visiting Uncle Joe, and was walking around his house when I saw the photo there. I thought it might be nice to put it in the paper and find out if there are any of the other team members around. Then I could put them in contact with Uncle Joe."

If you recognise any of the other team members, call the newsroom on 01924 472121.
