YOUNGSTERS from Howden Clough played hosts to German tourists Unna Massen last weekend
Kirklees is twinned with Unna Massen, which is close to Düsseldorf, and for 10 years, Clough have been invited to their annual tournament.
Last weekend, Unna council arranged for the Under-14 team to travel with a party of 15 players, coaches, parents and club chairman Burkhard (Tony) Schumann.
The visitors had a trip to Leeds Armouries on Friday morning, when Sue Milner, one of the Clough player's parents, provided translation, before the team were given a tour at Huddersfield Town.
Kirklees representative David Morby was presented with a gift from the mayor of Unna Massen, before they returned to Batley Sports and Tennis Centre for tea, fun swim and bar games.
Despite only having six weeks to arrange the visit, Clough hosted a mini tournament involving themselves, Mount Pleasant and Spen Valley District on the 3G pitch.
The final was between Spen Valley and Unna Massen and both sides produced good football. It was decided by a terrific shot from an Unna midfielder.
Runners-up Spen Valley were presented with emblems and Unna Massen received a cut glass engraved trophy.
Clough are hoping this will be the first of many exchange visits between the clubs and will look to expand the competition in future years.
