HANGING HEATON'S double weekend yielded a mere four points as they earned two points from a nine-wicket defeat at home to Cleckheaton on Saturday while Sunday's match with Bradford and Bingley was abandoned when rain stopped play.
Batting first on Saturday Heaton were on the back foot from the start having lost their openers with just three runs on the board.
Haroon Rashid lifted spirits a bit with 26 while Amar Rashid made 30.
However, Cleckheaton continued to press and ha
d Heaton struggling at 65-5. Alan Mynett gave a good account of himself, top scoring with 39, and Nick Summerscales added a useful unbeaten 22 as Heaton lost their last wicket with two balls remaining, having set a target of 162.
Iain Wardlaw was the pick of the Cleckheaton bowlers with 4-41 closely followed by Mohammed Zaman with 3-33.
Cleckheaton's captain, John Wood, grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck as he chose to open the innings with Michael Nicholson. The pair tormented the Heaton bowlers and put on 116 before Nicholson fell for 35 to Mark Inwood to a catch by Rob Smith.
Wood continued to be a threat and he eventually carried his bat for 101 having his two sixes and 14 fours having faced 96 balls.
It wasn't any better for Heaton on Sunday as they travelled to Bradford and Bingley. Chris Schofield and Imran Arif shared an opening partnership of 45 before Arif was bowled by Phil Slater for 19, he was quickly followed by Schofield, who made 23 before being bowled by Chris Thompson.
It was looking promising for Heaton as Harroon Rashid was unbeaten on 10 and Amar Rashid has raced to 36 when rain stopped play.
Heaton have slipped to eighth and have two matches at Pudsey St Lawrence and at home to Brighouse to beat their seventh placed finish last season.
Hanging Heaton's second team earned an 80 run victory over Lightcliffe on Saturday. Howard Ellis led the way with an innings of 60 while Michael Horner took 5-26 and Peter Byrne claimed 3-19 as Lightcliffe were bowled out for 94.
On Sunday East Bierley were 112-5 when rain stopped play for the day and the match was abandoned.
n THE JCT 600 Sovereigns will compete in tonight's (Thursday) Cleckheaton Floodlit Twenty20 competition after they defeated Wrenthorpe Warriors by five wickets on Tuesday night.
JCT 600 Sovereigns will play either hosts Cleckheaton or the Huddersfield Drakes, who played the second semi last night.
