FC WASPS and Rose of York continue to lead the promotion race in Wakefield League Division One following victories last Saturday.
Wasps are top on goal difference after a 3-0 win over Eastmoor but Rose are level on 37 points with two games in hand after a thrilling 5-4 success at Ossett Two Brewers.
The Wasps converted two penalties, through Adam Kelk and Tim Hudson, while D
aniel Sullivan was also on target in their fine win.
Shaun McDaid (two), Sean Housecroft and an own goal put Rose 4-1 up but Two Brewers battled back and looked to have grabbed a point when they equalised in the 90th minute.
However, Rose went straight up the other end of the field from the kick off and Andy Smith bagged an injury time winner to keep them very much in the title hunt.
The top-two have yet to meet in the league and the first clash is at Crawshaw Street on March 27 in what should be a cracking contest.
n Wheelwright Thirds came from behind to defeat St Bedes Thirds 2-1 to record their second win of the season in Yorkshire Old Boys League Division Five.
Although Wheelwright started well, they went off the boil and it was St Bedes who took the lead.
Wheelwright responded and Mark Maguire finished well from the edge of the penalty area before Phil Stock’s cross sneaked in at the near post to make it 2-1 at half-time.
St Bedes hit a post and crossbar in the second half as Wheelwright rode their luck to seal victory.
Wheelwright MoM Graham Hall produced another strong performance at the back and victory saw his side close the gap on second-bottom Centralians Fourths to just two points and with four home games scheduled for March, weather permitting, they have a good chance of climbing out of the bottom two.
n Heckmondwike Town produced an impressive display to defeat promotion chasing Salts 3-1 in the West Riding County Amateur League Division One last Saturday.
After a goalless first half, the game sprung to life as John Hiscox fired a brace, while Nathan Willoughby also netted to earn them the points.
The victory also helped Hunsworth’s promotion hopes as it leaves Salts 10 points behind the first division leaders.
Hunsworth, who were not in action last week, saw their lead cut to two points by second placed Steeton, who defeated Dudley Hill Rangers 5-3, although they have played four more games than Hunsworth and third placed Salts.
Overthorpe’s relegation worries grew after they were beaten 3-2 at home to third-bottom Eastmoor.
Victory saw Eastmoor draw level on 13 points with Overthorpe, while they are just two ahead of Hemsworth and Tyersal Reserves.
Dudley Hill Athletic remain second-bottom in Division Two, seven points ahead of Morley Town, after they suffered a ninth defeat of the season against promotion chasing Westbrook YMCA.
Athletic gave second placed Westbrook a fright, taking a first half lead, but the visitors fought back to seal a 3-2 victory. Brendon Folan and Mark Roberts were the Dudley Hill scorers.
