THE promotion challenge of Shaw Cross Sharks in the National Conference First Division could be put on hold for a further two weeks.
The Sharks have no game over Easter and will not be playing at Ince Rose Bridge on March 29 because they have five players in the Yorkshire squad, who play the following day. They are Richard Squires, Adam Chappell, Paul Brown, Matt Myers and Steve S
cott.
Squires, Myers, Danny Smith and Brown are also in a BARLA squad along with Thornhill's Andy Broadhead and Johnny Campbell.
Leaders Wigan St Judes seem out of reach in the promotion chase and realistically the Sharks have only four games remaining as they seek to overhaul in particular second-placed Saddleworth, who have played a game more.
The worry is that the Sharks may have to play at least one midweek fixture and that is often difficult with work commitments. Another problem for Cross is that their points difference is much worse then the teams above, despite a dramatic increase in their scoring power in recent matches.
Premier Division Thornhill Trojans still have relegation worries, although their excellent draw at Rochdale Mayfield last weekend was a fine result. The Trojans play another testing away fixture on Saturday when they visit second-placed Skirlaugh.
