Sidle fires Birstall to glory in top-two quest – Woodkirk in winning form

BIRSTALL A stay third in Central Yorkshire League Division Two after a 66-run home win over Wakefield St Michael's A.
Richard Sidle fired 87 and Malcolm Ellis 36 as the hosts made 195-9 despite 7-62 from Adam Miller.
Early strikes by Dave Hilton (1-33) and Adam Holroyd (4-47) had the visitors in trouble at 72-7 before James Tolson (3-22) and Sidle (1-2) saw St Michael's A dismissed for 129 in their 38th over.
Birstall A are four points behind Methley A (85) afte
r they lost by four wickets at Gildersome (86-6) who now lead by 10 points and have secured a top two finish.
Woodkirk are fourth, two points behind Birstall A, after beating Ossett A by 97 runs.
Mushtak Navsarka smashed 80, Stephen Dawber 37 and Shahid Mahmood 27 as Woodkirk were 210 all out.
Richard Fenwick led the visitors' reply but Gary Dawber took the honours with 6-21 in 12.5 overs as Ossett A were bowled out for 113. Mahmood took 2-41, Patrick Hinchliffe 1-32 and Gary Close 1-14.
Liversedge A succumbed against a very strong Townville A side who won by 227 runs.
The hosts hit 327-5 led by Nick Bresnan with an unbeaten 157.
Jonathan Newsome hit 28 at the top of the order but Liversedge were 100 all out with Bresnan, Jack Hughes and Daniel Murray among the wickets.
East Ardsley A gained a 24-run win over Mirfield Parish Cavaliers A.
The home side were reduced to 27-5 by Paul Fretwell and Paul Brooke (3-49) before Ashley Pearson (29), Michael Pearson (57no) and Tom Daniels (20) eased them to 154-9. Fretwell claimed 5-37 in 14 overs and Michael Blakeley 1-24.
Sean Elliott made 31 and Russ Ward 56 in reply but they lacked support as Parish A closed on 130-9. Ashley Pearson finished with 6-39 and Danny Walker 2-13.
Wakefield Thornes A remain top of Division Three after a six-wicket home win over Westwood Park while New Farnley are two points behind in second after their nine-wicket success at Gildersome A.
Scholes A are level on points with Farnley A after dismissing nine-man hosts Stanley A for 41.
Ross Irving took 4-8, Ilyas Lunat 2-2 and Christian Jackson 2-21 before Andrew Spencer (25no) and Neil Goldborough (11no) saw Scholes A to 42-0 in their sixth over.
Moorlands A are seven points adrift in fourth after a six-wicket defeat at Adwalton.
Steve Auty top scored with 66 while Steve Mallinson and Oliver Rounding both hit 23 as Moorlands A reached 181-9.
Paul Bennett replied with an unbeaten 65 for the hosts and despite wickets for Danny Broadley (2-33), Ian Lay (1-21) and Andrew Render (1-37) Adwalton A made 185-4.
In Division Four, Hopton Mills A lost by one run at East Leeds A after being dismissed with a ball to spare.
The home side reached 186-8 as Rhys Olbision fired 79 not out. Richard Payne took 3-15 and Mark Hall 2-27 while there was a wicket each for Graham Barber and Andy Bradley.
Payne top scored with 64 in reply but Mills, whose final two men were run out, were dismissed for 185 with one ball to spare.
Leaders Northowram A won by eight wickets at home to Woodkirk A.
Mark Addinall made 26 and Ilyas Chunara 21 as Woodkirk closed on 100-9. Paul Gape took 2-14 but Northowram eased to 104-2.
