SPEN Victoria has been chosen to stage the 125th Heavy Woollen Cup final on Sunday August 3.
Spen made a good impression when hosting three successive Crowther Cup finals between 2004 and 2006 but this will be the first time they have hosted the Heavy Woollen final.
Spen chairman Derek Warriner said: "We are honoured to be selected and the
work has already started to plan for the final. This is a tremendous boost for the club."
The Heavy Woollen management committee are still wanting former winning captains to get in touch so they can be invited to the 125th final.
Secretary Lesley Robinson has already contacted around 20 and asks any other former winning captain to e-mail keiles33@ btopen world.com or call 01535 669313.
Hanging Heaton will stage the Crowther Cup final on Monday August 25.
n The Heavy Woollen management have called a special meeting of clubs to discuss the future direction of the competition next Thursday (June 26) at Gomersal.
Among the issues which will be discussed are restricting the number of teams to 32, re-introducing the 18-mile rule, time limits for the bowling of overs and the methods for deciding rain hit games.
It is hoped that proposals will be able to be drafted for the rules revision meeting at Gomersal on July 22.
