Unbeaten Birstall have cup goal
BIRSTALL will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season with two games over the weekend.
John Carruthers has three Central Yorkshire League victories since taking over as captain and last Sunday Birstall made progress in the Jack Hampshire Trophy.
Connor Williams and Vikram Rathour are in superb form, scoring 485 runs between them in the last three matches.
This Sunday Birstall turn their attentions to the Heavy Woollen Cup and a tie at New Farnley (start 1pm), who they defeated by 95 runs two weeks ago.
Carruthers said: "We are playing some good cricket at the moment and both Connor and Vikram look in great touch and are batting well.
"The league win over Farnley is in the past and the cup game will be completely different, especially as you need to use five bowlers, but we are looking to have a good run in both competitions.
"It would be fantastic to have a decent run in the Heavy Woollen. You need to have a bit of luck with the draw and it would be nice to get some Sunday cricket at home as we look to raise the profile of the club."
Spinner Richard Pearson doesn't play on Sundays, while all-rounder Rob McFarlane is struggling with a side strain.
Birstall secured a nine-wicket Hampshire Trophy win over Northowram Fields last Sunday and the sides meet again tomorrow in the Premier Division (1pm).
Batley will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing weekend as they visit Mirfield Parish Cavaliers in the Premier on Saturday.
Batley lost by eight wickets to Methley in the league last Saturday and then suffered a shock defeat to first division Carlton in their Jack Hampshire Trophy tie.
Batley are a point above Parish after four games so it could prove an interesting contest.
Woodkirk face a stern test in Division Two as they host early pace setters Gildersome.
Hanging Heaton have made a mixed start to their campaign and suffered a 93-run defeat byYeadon as they crashed out of the Priestley Cup last Sunday.
Heaton's only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season now rests with the Heavy Woollen Cup and they visit fellow Bradford League first division side Manningham Mills on Sunday.
Heaton also have a tough Division One game on Saturday at Baildon, who lost narrowly at champions Woodlands last weekend.
