Bulldogs refreshed ahead of tough trip to Doncaster
Batley Bulldogs will travel to Doncaster on Sunday (3pm) fully re-charged following a 10-day break from the rigours of Championship action.
Batley only had a four day rest between their games York and Barrow last month but having featured live on Premier Sports on consecutive Thursdays, Batley have had an extended break ahead of their trip to Doncaster.
It will prove another test at the Keepmoat Stadium and again Batley must wait to find out who will be in Doncaster’s team as they have links with Super League side Wakefield Wildcats.
Bobbie Goulding, Kyle Trout and Danny Cowling have all figured for the Dons this time, along with James Clare, whose parent club is Castleford Tigers.
Batley served up a thrilling 18-18 draw against title rivals Halifax last Thursday when Johnny Campbell’s last gasp try and Tom Hemingway’s touchline goal rescued a share of the spoils.
Kear said: “You have got to congratulate the players on their desire, the commitment and determination to keep battling to the end. That spirit brought them home two points.
“They (Batley) believe they are a good team and they believe that they don’t know when they are beaten. They really kept working to the end.
“I thought it was a cracking game for anyone watching on TV or paid to come through the turnstiles. It was a great advert for Championship rugby.
“We have only conceded 37 points (prior to Thursday) so we are not happy about conceding 18. It does show when push comes to shove that these fellas will bend their backs and put their shoulders in.
“If you have got a team who will do that you might be a bit scratchy with the ball now and again but you will still give yourself half a chance of winning.”
With back-to-back away games, followed by a home clash with Swinton on Saturday March 23 and then two Easter fixtures, Batley do not have a Sunday home match until April 14.
