BATLEY Bulldogs opened the new Championship season with a stylish 42-10 victory over Keighley Cougars at the loverugbyleague.com Stadium on Sunday.
The Bulldogs ran in seven tries, with full-back Miles Greenwood scoring a hat-trick on his competitive debut for the Bulldogs.
Batley led 16-0 after just 12 minutes as a Greenwood brace, sandwiched between a superb effort from impressive stand-off Ben Black, plus two Tom Hemingway conversions put them in control.
Danny Lawton replied for Keighley but Gareth Potts scorched in for Batley’s fourth try and another Hemingway goal made it 22-4 at half-time.
Greenwood completed his hat-trick three minutes into the second half following a superb break from Alex Walmsley, the St Helens dual registration forward. Hemingway converted and added a penalty to put Batley 30-4 ahead.
Paul White replied with a second consolation try for the Cougars, which Scott Leatherbarrow improved, but further scored from Jason Walton and Greg Johnson, plus two Hemingway goals, completed an impressive opening day win for John Kear’s side.
