Borough of Kirklees secure championships medal haul

Split over two weekends, the Borough of Kirklees nine to 12 year olds achieved a magnificent 20 gold medals, nine silver, six bronze and an additional 56 top 10 finishes.

Ruby Knight claimed five gold medals, two silver and a bronze, Alistair Henderson won five golds, Daniel Jackson claimed four golds, four silver and a bronze and Milly Boulding won four golds and a silver.

Other medal winners included Jamie Pridgeon, with a gold and silver, Matha Bradley, who claimed a gold and bronze, James Plant, with three bronze medals, Seth Leech, who claimed a silver, and Gina Speakman claimed a bronze medal.

The 13-year-olds to open age group swimmers also had a successful meet, collecting eight gold medals, 10 silver, 10 bronze and an additional 52 hats, which are awarded for top 10 placings.

Kyle Chisholm led the way with five gold medals and a bronze, with Keelan Fitton collecting two golds, two silvers and a bronze.

Thomas Grierson won a gold, a silver and two bronze medals, Avril Bowler won two silvers and a bronze and Rosie Hepworth won a silver and two bronze medals.

Devyn Leask and Samuel Loizou won a silver and a bronze medal apiece, while Emily Hirst claimed two bronze medals and Holly Pearson a silver.

Several Borough of Kirklees records were also broken at the Yorkshire Short Course Championships.

Martha Bradley 12 years 100m breaststroke (1.16.39), Milly Boulding 12 years 50m freestyle (28.86), 50m butterfly (31.47) and 100m freestyle (1.00.67), Thomas Grierson 13 years 100m butterfly (1.02.44), Avril Bowler 14 years and open age 50m breaststroke (33.75), Keelan Fitton 15/16 years 50m breaststroke (33.86) and 50m backstroke (29.74), Kyle Chisholm open age 50m freestyle (23.67), 50m backstroke (25.58), 50m butterfly (25.12 and 100m butterfly (54.87).
