Hanging Heaton maintain impressive start to season

Hanging Heaton extended their winning run to nine matches as they moved top of the All Rounder Bradford Premier League last Saturday before progressing to the ECB National Cup group semi-finals on Sunday.

The Bennett lane side recorded an impressive 77-run win over previously unbeaten Woodlands in a 20 overs a side match last Saturday.

The sides waited until the final cut off point of 4.25pm to start and knew the winners would move top after leaders Farsley’s game against local rivals Pudsey St Lawrence was one of several games to be abandoned on a day decimated by the weather.

Heaton made 161-4 in their 20 overs as opener Nick Connolly was continued his impressive early season form with 45 while Joe Fraser scored 41no.

Woodlands lost wickets in the hunt for quick runs and were bowled out for 84 as Tom Chippendale (3-19) and Callum Geldart (3-12) did the damage.

The 17 points Heaton earned took them 10 clear of Townville who climbed into second place after recording a fourth-successive league win in a 20-over contest at Lightcliffe.

Heaton followed Saturday’s win by thrashing Cleethorpes by 188 runs in the ECB Cup.

Heaton were asked to bat first and although they lost Richard Foster early on, Gary Fellows and Fraser shared a 105-run stand for the second wicket.

Fellows (58) scored a 16th career half century for Hangng Heaton, while Fraser made 51 from just 43 balls including seven fours and two sixes.

Heaton slipped from 110-1 to 163-7 as Harry Clewett and James Osmond picked up three wickets apiece but David Stiff and Imran Dawood then regained Heaton’s supremacy.

Stiff struck four big sixes in a brisk 38, while Dawood made a top score of 72 from just 54 balls including six fours and four sixes before he was last man out, with the home side posting 299.

Stiff (4-25) and Chippendale (2-27) were too good for the Cleethorpes top order, while Chris Goodair claimed 4-27 as they were reduced to 60-9.

Lee Charlton (24) and Joe Baker (25) offered late resistance but Cleethorpes were eventually bowled out for 111 as Heaton booked a group semi-final with South Yorkshire Premier side Sheffield Collegiate.

Townville moved second in the Bradford Premier last Saturday when they made 180-6 in 20 overs against Lightcliffe with opener Jonathan Booth (48) leading the way, despite the efforts of Ian Philliskirk (3-60) and Daanyaal Ahmed (2-48).

Philliskirk hit six sixes in a 28-ball 51 but Lightcliffe could only make 151-9 to lose by 29 runs.

Bradford & Bingley lifted themselves off the bottom and out of the relegation positions with a 67-run win over New Farnley last Saturday, while the top flight’s only other game to start saw only four balls at Cleckheaton.

Opener Andy Gorrod hit a boundary before being bowled by Pudsey Congs’ Jamie Allen before the rain brought an early end to proceedings.

Batley dropped to the bottom without even playing after their match at East Bierley was called off without a ball being bowled.
