Hide AdTown should have closed the game out at 2-0 up but Stevenage exploited some poor defending to pull a goal back through a Michael Bostwick header.
A clumsy challenge by Sean Morrison resulted in a Stevenage penalty. Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies made a terrific one-handed save to stop Scott Laird’s spot kick.
The drama wasn’t over as two minutes from time Robin Shroot met a cross and placed it beyond Smithies for the equaliser.
Town remain fourth a point behind Sheffield Wednesday who are third and three behind Sheffield United who are second and play their game in hand tonight at home to Scunthorpe.
