Ali smashes Liversedge bowler for six sixes

Bingley overseas player Noman Ali became the first batsman in cup history to hit six sixes in an over off Liversedge spinner Barnes.

Ali clattered seven maximums, including 36 off one Barnes over, on his way to 67 from just 35 balls and he shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 115 with Charlie Best (94) as Bingley were bowled out for 308, with Liversedge off spinner Stephen Lane claiming 3-45.

Paul Marlow made 105 not out in reply, including two sixes and 17 fours, while Mark Hydes (41) supported but Liversedge were closed on 222-9.

Premier Division East Bierley bowed out, losing by three wickets to Championship opponents Methley.

Although Rob Barker (36) top scored, Bierley were bowled out for 190 as Methley overseas player Samuel Mofokeng claimed 5-29.

One time Bierley player and new Methley captain Grant Soames made 49 in reply, while Sohail Raz was unbeaten on 36 to see their side home by five wickets, despite Luke Jarvis claiming 3-28.

Woodlands edged a two-wicket win over Premier Division rivals New Farnley and avenged their Heavy Woollen Cup exit seven days earlier.

Richard Atkins (67) and James Middlebrook (51) were the main contributors in New Farnley’s 231-9, which saw Sarfraz Ahmed take 4-53.

Logan Weston (53) and wicketkeeper Greg Finn (51) helped Woodlands chase down Farnley’s total off the final ball of the match.

There was also a close finish in the all-Premier Division clash at Scatcherd Lane which saw Scholes defeat Morley by five runs to record their first win of the season.

Irfan Amjad (64) top scored as Scholes were bowled out for 149, with Henry Rush claiming 4-22.

Morley were reduced to 85-9 in reply as James Harding returned excellent figures of 6-36 before a last-wicket stand of 59 between Nathan Bromby (42) and Matthew Dowse (18no) saw them to within five runs of their target only for Bromby to be trapped lbw by Christian Jackson with two overs to go.

Hartshead Moor suffered a nine-wicket defeat to Lightcliffe, despite overseas player Liam Muggeridge (63) and opener James Hardcastle (51) helping them post 181-9.

An unbroken second-wicket stand of 112 between Alex Stead (71no) and Ian Philliskirk (50no) saw Lightcliffe home.

Cleckheaton captain John Wood smashed 81 from just 59 balls, including six sixes and eight fours, as Cleckheaton cruised to a seven-wicket win over Altofts.

Chris Holliday (76no) supported Wood as Cleck passed Altofts’ respectable total of 213-8 with 18 overs to spare.

Hanging Heaton captain Gary Fellows hit his second century of the weekend as his side earned a resounding seven-wicket win at Pudsey Congs.

Fellows made an unbeaten 124 which included a six and 15 fours and he was joined in a second-wicket stand of 113 by Richard Foster (50) as the Congs’ total of 254-9 was passed with six overs to spare.

Carlton’s Farrukh Alam smashed 141, including 108 runs in boundaries, to help his side post 297-8 against Spen Victoria. Evan Edwards (59) and Alex Leadbeater (46) ensured that Spen made a respectable 208 in reply.

Batley’s Muhammad Shahnawaz took 6-22 in a 21-run win over Saltaire.

Overseas player Tanzeel Altaf made 51 for Saltaire but could not save his side from defeat as Batley successfully defended a modest score of 145. Tariq Mehboob top scored with 46.

Mushtaq Ahmed took 5-21 as Baildon dismissed Birstall for 133 to seal a 56-run success.

Siraj Hussain (35) top scored for Birstall but although Kamran Khan took 3-9 it was not enough to prevent defeat.
