Batley's main aim is a top-six finish

BATLEY coach Karl Harrison has stressed that he does not want the Bulldogs' historic season to simply fade away as they prepare to meet Keighley Cougars in the Co-operative Championship at Mount Pleasant on Sunday (3pm).

Harrison stressed that the main aim of the campaign was to finish in the top six and added that this was still possible, although he conceded that the side would have to play well to do it.

The Bulldogs are three points behind sixth-placed Toulouse and two adrift of Widnes. But the French side have a tricky game at Barrow on Saturday and Widnes have a difficult task at Halifax tonight, Thursday, so a win for Batley on Sunday could take them into a play-off place.

The Batley boss remarked: "We had three aims at the outset — to avoid relegation, win the Northern Rail Cup and reach the top six. We have achieved two of them and the third is still possible. Once you reach the play-offs it becomes a four-match season, I don't want the season to just filter away.
